Executive Encore Glow: Simpler Full-Body Skincare is Your Best Strategy

Nov 07, 2025

As a woman, you’ve mastered the art of navigating high-stress environments. Your high-performing career and lifestyle have given you many opportunities and challenges to thrive on pressure and lead with strength. But have you ever paused to consider the toll this constant demand takes on your skin? The very stress that fuels your success could be silently accelerating the aging process.

In our latest Executive Encore podcast episode, I had an enlightening conversation with Dr. Ebru Karpuzoglu, an award-winning immunologist and the founder of AveSeena. Dr. Ebru revealed a powerful truth: achieving radiant, resilient skin isn't about complex routines, but about understanding and calming the inflammation caused by our demanding lives.

And, just to be clear, we’re not just talking about your face. Our skin is a protective organ that covers our entire body.

Today's blog is all about giving your skincare routine a fabulous makeover in your Executive Encore! We're diving into the best practices from Dr. Ebru to help you nourish your skin from the inside out.

Is Your Stress Aging You? The Truth About Inflammaging
You’re familiar with the feeling of a high-stakes week, the back-to-back meetings, the tight deadlines, the constant pressure. Now, as you transition into your Executive Encore, you continue to manage it all with grace. However, your body continues to respond to its environment and the demands placed upon it by producing cortisol, the primary stress hormone. In small doses, cortisol is helpful. However, when stress becomes a constant companion, cortisol levels remain high, triggering a state of chronic, low-grade inflammation throughout your body.

Cortisol and the Aging Process
Cortisol is an essential hormone with vital functions in a woman's body at any age, including her 50s, 60s, and beyond, such as regulating metabolism, blood pressure, and inflammation. However, as we age, mean cortisol levels tend to naturally increase, and this chronically elevated state is associated with several negative health outcomes, rather than specific benefits.

A Colorado State University study (2025) found that when cortisol levels doubled, biological age increased by about 50%! This finding aligns with other evidence suggesting that chronic stress can accelerate aging, underscoring the importance of stress management in promoting good health at any age.

Dr. Ebru calls this process of chronic stress "inflammaging," and your skin is one of the first places it shows up.

This isn't just a surface-level issue. Inflammaging works beneath the skin to:

  • Break down collagen and elastin: These are the essential proteins that give your skin its firmness and elasticity. When these essentials degrade, you may notice an increase in fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of contour.
  • Weaken the skin’s protective barrier: A compromised barrier can no longer effectively lock in moisture or keep out irritants. This leads to dryness, redness, and a dull, tired appearance. Its effects are visible not just on your face and hands, but over your entire body.

Consider this: the resilience that helped you build a successful career might be weakened on a cellular level by the stress that came with it. If not addressed, this stress can carry over into your next chapter. Ignoring inflammaging means allowing the aging process to operate on fast-forward. We can’t stop the clock, but we can help our skin remain healthy and glowing!

Why Your Skin is More Sensitive Than Ever
Have you noticed that your skin has become more reactive over the years? Products that once worked wonders might now cause irritation, or you may be dealing with persistent redness you can't explain. You are not alone. There's a reason that so many accomplished women find their skin is becoming more sensitive.

The beauty industry often (still) promotes the idea that more is more. Think of your journey in the realm of skincare since you began reading Teen Magazine or Seventeen, and then onto Cosmopolitan, Vogue, and other magazines filled with cosmetic and skincare products. We have now reached a point where we are encouraged to create complex, multi-step routines filled with a revolving door of trendy, potent "active" ingredients. As an immunologist, Dr. Ebru warns that this approach often does more harm than good.

Bombarding your skin with too many products can overwhelm its natural defences. This overload disrupts the delicate balance of your skin’s microbiome and damages its protective barrier, leading directly to the increased sensitivity that many of us experience. Your skin has an incredible, innate intelligence to protect and heal itself. A truly effective routine should support that intelligence, not fight against it.

I like to remind myself that my body is "magic" and that if I honour that magic rather than fight it, my body will support me in my next chapter of life.

Let's take a step back from the clutter and the "influence" of celebrity brands, and embrace a simpler, more intentional approach.

The Power of a Simple, Science-Backed Routine
What is the secret to achieving and maintaining that executive glow? The answer is beautifully simple: calm the inflammation and support your skin’s natural functions.

A complicated cabinet full of products is not the solution. I dare say, there could be many expired products and old formulas in our cabinets as well, which increases the likelihood that some products will be the culprits in causing sensitivity.

Instead, Dr. Ebru champions a minimalist routine built on a foundation of science.

This approach focuses on a few high-quality, biocompatible products with ingredients that have been proven to work. This is not the time for experimenting with "cheap" products with dubious quality ingredients. It’s about giving your skin exactly what it needs to thrive, without the unnecessary stress of irritation. It's also about having a good skincare routine. Our mature skin can no longer tolerate neglect, such as inadequate daily cleansing, moisturizing, and protection. Our skin can no longer tolerate other poor habits, such as lack of sleep and unhealthy foods.

Here are the key takeaways for building your empowered Executive Encore skincare routine as endorsed by Dr. Ebru:

  • Pare it back: A gentle cleanser, a targeted serum, and a protective moisturizer are the cornerstones of a healthy routine. Consistency with a few effective products is far more powerful than sporadic use of many trial-and-error products based on the latest trends and celebrity brands. A referral from your GP to a qualified dermatologist is both more cost-effective and reliable than seeking advice at a cosmetic counter or browsing online for branded "anti-aging" products.
  • Focus on proven ingredients: Look for products formulated to calm and strengthen your skin. Ingredients like niacinamide, ceramides, and antioxidants have been scientifically validated to reduce inflammation and help rebuild your skin’s barrier.
  • Address stress from the inside: Skincare is only half the equation. You can support your skin from within by incorporating small moments of calm into your day. A few minutes of deep breathing before a meeting, a short walk at lunch, or a mindfulness practice can help lower cortisol levels and combat inflammaging at its source.

This is about more than just looking good; it's about feeling good and aligning your outer vitality with the incredible strength you hold within. You’ve built an impressive career and life. Now is the time to adopt a wellness philosophy that ensures your radiance never fades through your Executive Encore Journey.
